Suzanne Thomas
Suzanne is a native of Grove City, Ohio who found herself in the first class of Chemical Engineers at Florida State University. While in Tallahassee, Suzanne was instrumental in establishing the American Institute of Chemical Engineers on campus, which is still an active organization at the university today. She would eventually become AIChE’s first president en route to becoming Florida State’s first female chemical engineering graduate in 1988.
After serving as an engineering consultant in the food and pharmaceutical industry for 5 years, Suzanne noticed the lack of professional technical writing experience in the engineering industry. She saw the need for strong technical communicators, and launched her business, S&T Technical Aspects. With a small staff, S&T’s work quickly got noticed in the engineering world as well as in the educational publishing world. Because of the combination of strong writing skills combined with math and science expertise, S&T was sought out by South-Western Educational Publishing and Holt, Rinehart, and Winston to participate in a variety of K-12 and higher educational projects. These projects catapulted the company into the educational industry, as word of mouth of S&T’s skill set and their energetic approach to projects soon spread. For over 25 years, S&T’s contribution to curriculum and assessment development has been distributed both domestic and internationally.
Suzanne is a huge believer of the “pay it forward” philosophy. For students wanting to improve their college admission test scores in the hopes of entering a STEM-related field, such as those pictured above, Suzanne volunteers to help these students prep for their boards in hopes that they may achieve their academic and collegiate goals.
